Working as a film extra in NYC is certainly something that has benefits. And could be fun for someone that’s interested in an entry-level career in the film industry. Or just looking for a hobby that comes with cash benefits. The city is full of film studios. And represents one of the top locations in the world for filmmakers to shoot movies. It would seem like there must be a lot of potential opportunity for an aspiring artist to get their feet wet in the industry. Certainly learning how to work as an extra in films in NYC is something that many people consider. But what’s the process actually like?

While you might think that becoming an extra in a movie filmed in New York City would be a great way to spend a day, there’s definitely more to working as an extra than just a spur of the moment idea on the fly.

While there are lots of movies being filmed in the city at a given time, and there’s definitely a need for extras, you’re probably going to have to plan a little before you find yourself on a film set.
