1. Great Scripts are the Result of Excellent Storytelling

Every good commercial script tells a story! Great ads are backed by great stories. The truth is, you can drive significantly more viewers to your advertisements with a great story than you ever can with a poorly-written script that doesn’t deliver.

Take The Steps

Consider the steps you can take to capture your audience, connect with them emotionally, and keep them around for the entirety of your story.

2. Great Scripts Deliver True Experiences

Think about most commercials that you watch. Think about how the experience that they showcase is something that you may relate with and want to be a part of. Most great scripts are the result of a desire to deliver a true experience for the end viewer.

Consider This

For example, focusing on the universal truth that your target market can relate with will capture audience attention and user interest more so than something that they cannot actually connect with. Consider this as you write your script.

3. Great Scripts Generate Deep Emotions

Want to write the best script for your commercial television advertisement ever? Find out what you can do to connect deeply with the emotions of your target audience so that they feel SOMETHING when they’re done watching–do this and you have succeeded in producing a great script! Think of how the imagery, audio, and movements taking place within the script can connect emotionally with your audience–want to make them cry? Do it! Want to elicit a laugh? Go for it!

If you can somehow evoke a level of emotion from your audience, do it! Whatever you can do to write a script that is going to capture the emotional attention of your audience–focus there and grow your script. Just make sure that the emotion is the right connection for your brand–nothing is worse than connecting in the wrong manner!

4. Great Scripts Encourage Behavior

You hear a lot about call-to-action, but what does it really mean? As you think of a call-to-action, think of what you can do to elicit a behavior from your audience. Great commercial television production scripts will encourage your audience to perform some action or behavior. What do you want from the audience?

What Do You Want?

Want them to call you? Want them to come to your store? Want them to purchase a product? Use your script to tell your audience exactly what you expect from them. A great commercial will tell a story, elicit an emotion, capture your audience and tell them exactly what to do!

5. Great Scripts Hook the Audience

It doesn’t matter what your hook is, as long as it captures the attention of your audience and it does so immediately! Great scripts are written with the premise of capturing or “hooking” the audience in the first five seconds. Start out with measures to ensure the hook is delivered right at the beginning of your commercial–you’ve got mere seconds to connect and generate interest otherwise you’re going to lose your audience.

The Power is Yours!

Whatever it is, whether it’s a fascinating visual or a statistic or something entirely different, the goal is to immediately grab the viewer’s attention. How you choose to write your script so that you hook the viewer is totally up to you–but just know that all great scripts come with a hook!
