Top 10 Abstract Film Locations in New York City

Distinct figures, attention grabbing colors, and a mix of texture and patterns that are as visually consuming as they are entertaining makes New York City one of the most popular film locations in the world. The Big Apple certainly draws filmmakers from all over the world, many interested in viewing the unique architecture of the city through a different lens. Whether its the skyline views, stunning bridges or amazing architecture, filmmakers continue to flock to these abstract film locations in New York City to capture it all. 

1. Empire Fulton Ferry Park

Checking out the Brooklyn Bridge at night from the Empire Fulton Ferry Park provides an amazing view of one of the most abstract film locations in New York City. The bridge with the Financial District in the background makes for some amazing abstract views.

2. Hunter’s Point

From Hunter’s Point filmmakers can capture views of Midtown and the abstract lineup of NYC’s iconic buildings including the Chrysler Building, United Nations, American Copper Building, the Empire State Building and more. 

3. Queensboro Bridge

Featuring original American architecture and built before it opened in 1909, this is one of several abstract film locations in New York City that is frequently overlooked due to more recently established, larger than life icons, but the Queensboro Bridge is certainly worth a visit!

4. Ansonia Hotel

Built in 1904, this hotel has a lengthy history and is a New York City Landmark that has been referred to by officials as, “joyous exuberance profiled against the sky.”  Abstract views from every direction make this hotel a great place for a shoot.

5. Trinity Church

Providing some of the most amazing abstract views, this Gothic Revival building dates back to 1846 and stands tall at one of the most prominent intersections of the city – an ideal place for an abstract shoot.

6. One World Trade Center

Opening in 2014 and standing 1,776 feet tall, One World Trade Center is the tallest in the Western Hemisphere. The building showcases an abstract view complete with a patriotic feel.

7. Woolworth Building

Capture shots from atop the Woolworth Building which stands 792 feet tall and overlooks Manhattan. Looking down upon the city, you’ll catch several abstract scenes depending on where you look.

8. The Cloisters

A branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cloisters features medieval European architecture and a lot of abstract views depending on the angle and direction you focus on.

The gardens are lush during the spring and with four-acres overlooking the Hudson River you’ll find plenty to film while you’re there.

Located on Park Avenue and dating back almost 100 years to 1931, Waldorf Astoria was once the tallest and largest hotel in the world and, although it no longer holds that record, today is one of the most amazing abstract film locations in New York City to visit.
