Texas Governor’s COVID Health Standards Checklist

Media production in Houston, Texas was shut down for some time when non-essential businesses were forced closed in March of 2020. Shortly after, the Governor of Texas introduced a Checklist for Media Production which would act as the initial guidance for how film production companies like Beverly Boy could operate safely and continue to provide video production services despite COVID-19 risks. This checklist includes standard protocols for safe operation as follows:

  • Ensure social distancing on set.
  • Wear face coverings in situations where at least 6 feet cannot be achieved.
  • Reduce indoor capacity in the film studio or on set to 75% or less.
  • All employees, cast, crew, and contractors should have health screenings prior to production engagement. Temperature checks prior to entering.
  • A set medic is recommended.

In addition to the above guidance, the following checklist items apply to screening or reducing COVID-19 during video production in Houston, Texas:

  • Keep set closed to all outside visitors or non-essential personnel.
  • Provide personal hygiene resources including hand sanitizer and handwashing stations on set as well as EPA approved disinfectants to clean work surfaces.
  • Continue to maintain social distancing when possible.
  • Post visible signage at the entrance to the set and at the production office showcasing the contact information for the production safety officer in charge or ordering hand sanitizer supplies.
  • Schedule meetings virtually whenever possible.
  • Limit daily work hours to reduce the amount of time crew come in contact with one another and to provide more time for set, equipment, costume, prop, and decoration disinfectant.
  • Avoid sharing equipment between cast members, contractors, and crew.
  • Encourage hand washing upon entering set or office areas and when exiting.
  • Require face masks or covers to be worn by cast, crew, and employees on set if not on camera and when social distancing cannot be followed.
  • Disinfect multi-use supplies in between uses using disposable wipes.

Healthy Production on the Set

Houston’s government went a step further in outlining initiatives that can be taken to ensure the health of the set or studio by providing the following checklist items:

  • Limit exposure of personnel to other departments. Zoning limits transmission or spread from one area to another.
  • Sanitize workstations on a daily basis.
  • Clean all work surfaces and equipment daily.
  • Throw away any equipment that is single-use.
