Important Reasons to Create Airport Driver Training Videos for Your Employees

The Airport Operations Area is carefully maintained by a small group of Airfield Drivers that receive very specific airport driver training to ensure the safety of those on and off the runway. When it comes to educating airport drivers, training is typically provided via instructional videos and interactive content that focuses on tips tools and resources, improved understanding of airport aviation and runway practices, and mitigation of potential risks. If you’re not using airport driver training videos to teach and train airport employees that are responsible for the operation of motor vehicles along the runway, you could be risking employee safety and understanding, but why?

Why Use Airport Driver Training Videos?

Video has been proven effective in a variety of training scenarios and is the chosen medium for education across many industries. In fact, video is an amazing way of communicating educational content to employees, and has the power to teach or train students with various learning styles and at various degrees of understanding of the content involved. In fact, video makes complex training easier to follow and understand.

Studies have proven that employees who train with video are more likely to recall the information that they learn several months later. In fact, we recall upwards of 90% of what we learn via video compared to about 20% of what we learn in a training manual. Add the interactive elements of video which make training increasingly more effective, and you’ve got a recipe for success in any training program that you create.

Just consider these additional reasons to create airport driver training videos to teach and train your employees.

  1. Minimize Vehicle Crashes & Employee Injuries

Did you know that vehicular crashes result in about 80% of all employee related fatalities on the job? They’re also responsible for most employee injuries that occur. What if you could prevent more crashes on the runway and off, within your airport fleet? Video training can improve the employee understanding of the topics being covered resulting in potential fewer employee injuries and crashes at work. By improving driver behavior, videos have the power to greatly impact your bottom line while limiting workplace related fatalities.

  1. Scenarios-Based Training Improves Learning Outcomes

Some of the best airport driver training videos are those that incorporate the use of scenarios-based training to encourage engagement. This type of training is generally interactive in nature, and provides learners with pathways to solve potential problems and immediately see the outcomes. For example, a realistic runway scenario might be provided with possible outcomes offered to the learner to choose. If they choose the correct outcome, they immediately see the benefit, whereas if they choose the incorrect outcome, they can immediately see the potential risk.

This type of training helps learners to engage in real-life problem-solving as well as to practice engaging the unique scenarios and situations that they are most likely to face on the job. Paired with other interactive learning scenarios and opportunities, scenarios based training can greatly improve overall understanding among learners.

  1. Video Training Saves Time

It’s rather common for airport driver training to be provided in batch seminars where groups of new hires are trained in conjunction with one another. This means that new hires are often placed in a holding pattern until a training session comes available, or that multiple training sessions must be provided throughout the year in order to keep employees up to speed.

Video training saves time. A single training session is required for filming purposes. This session is then able to be watched over and over, by new employees, returning employees, or employees that seem to need a re-training on particular safety concepts or airport driving related subjects.

There is no need for employees to wait around for training.  This means new hires can begin almost immediately, and that training is readily available year around.

  1. Video Training Saves Money

In addition to the time saving effects of video, airport driver training videos also save money. Of course there’s the immediate savings that come from not having to coordinate travel and lodging for large group training programs, but there’s also the savings on the actual costs associated with paying the trainer. Again, a single training session can be paid for, and a single video production fee incurred, but the training itself can be delivered over and over again to new employees, old employees, or anyone that requires the specific training that is provided.

  1. Video is the Chosen Medium for Training

Not only among students or employees, but among management, too, video is the chosen medium for training. Videos are convenient and easy to use. Airport driver training videos can be hosted in an easy to access video library that makes the entire library of training content available on-demand anytime an employee requires a refresher on the topics at hand. Because videos are engaging and easier to digest, almost all students and employees will tell you that they actually prefer video based learning over any other formats of training that might be offered.
