Step 1: Keep it Brief and Start with a Video Brief
The first step to a successful and well-written corporate video script is to keep the script brief and to include the basic details in your video brief. As you write a video brief, consider the following elements that should be included:
- The purpose of the video.
- The desired action that you want viewers to take after they see the video.
- Who the audience is.
- What the video will do for the audience.
- Where the video will be distributed.
Your video brief is essentially a starting outline of your video. With the brief, you’ll be able to create a corporate video that is engaging, relevant and compelling.
Step 2: Write the Story
The next step to writing a corporate video script is to prepare the story. Your video should be incorporating a key message that is told with a core story. A story allows you to deliver your message in a way that your audience can resonate with. The story doesn’t have to be complicated.
Just make sure:
- There is a clearly defined beginning, middle, and end.
- The plot is easy to understand and your viewers will resonate with it.
- The characters are clearly defined.
- There is a clear call to action at the end.
Step 3: Use Conversational Tone
The words that you use in your script should be conversational. If you’re having trouble with the narrative, consider listening to conversations taking place around you. As you listen, use narrative in your script that is similar. Avoid cliches and terminology that we wouldn’t normally use in everyday conversation.
Step 4: Solve the Audience’s Problems
Your script should solve the problems that your audience faces. The more you are able to prove to your audience that your product or service is capable of solving a core problem of theirs, the greater the chance that the audience will convert. Focus on the use of visual and written cues that explain how you can solve their problems.
Step 5: Use Words & Visual Notes
As you write your corporate video script, be prepared to use both words and visual notes to explain how your message will be delivered to the audience. The script will be split into two columns.
The first column is for the words that the narrator will say, and the second column will be for the visuals that will take place to bring the words to life. Any text or additional graphics that will be in the video are included in the second column frame by frame as they correspond to the narration.
Step 6: Finishing Touches
Once you have written your corporate video script you can edit, make changes, and put any finishing touches on it. As you read the script, speak the narrator’s words clearly as you expect them to be used in the video.
Do they sound natural? Make any changes to wording or other elements of the script now so that the final script is exactly how you want it. Pay close attention to the pace and flow of the story. It’s much easier to make changes now than during production.
