1. Carefully Choose Your On-Screen Talent
The on-screen talent that you include in your corporate updates and announcements videos can literally make or break the success of the video. Choosing a speaker that doesn’t have the voice or skills on camera could derail your video’s potential for success. Likewise, if your talent has a voice that is scratchy or otherwise difficult to listen to, you could distract the audience more than you connect with them.
People often want to connect with the staff of a business or brand so consider using staff on camera. Choose someone that brings life and value to the screen.
2. Avoid the Use of Green Screen
Not because there’s anything wrong with a green screen video–there’s absolutely not! But, if you are not particularly skilled with lighting and the steps required to key out a green screen, you could end up with footage that looks poor and certainly lacks professional appearance qualities. If you can, attempt to capture your company updates and announcements videos with a natural background. Choose something that isn’t overly busy or cluttered. A simple, yet clean background is ideal.
3. Be Careful with Your Edits
You might be thinking you can place edits wherever and whenever you want, and that’s the idea that often comes to mind with a beginning video producer or editor or someone that has little post production editing skills, but this can distract your audience. Try not to jump cut your footage too frequently or to stop or restart too many times with your announcement.
If you find this happening, consider the use of B-roll footage and motion graphics to smooth the entire visual of the footage so that it’s less distracting. Think of your edits as compliments to your footage, not as fixes for the footage.
4. Keep It Short & Sweet
As with many forms of professional video content, updates and announcements videos should be kept short and sweet. You don’t want to drag on and you certainly don’t want your audience to lose interest in what you have to say. A good length for most corporate announcements or updates is between 2 and 3 minutes total length. Remember that you don’t want to pack in too much information or to overload the viewer. Keep your script short, about 160 words per minute, and use B-roll and related graphics to tell the overall story.
5. Use Professional Equipment
You want a professional announcement, you need to use professional equipment–period! You cannot expect high quality if you’re using the lowest quality camera or editing equipment to produce the video. Corporate announcements and updates, or those produced by church organizations or other fields have a poor reputation for using low-quality footage and trying to make something out of nothing–please, just don’t!
