What is a Pitch Video?

What is a Pitch Video?

The typical sales pitch was once easy to figure out. You’d throw together a couple of slides that detailed your problem, a couple of bullet points on how you can solve the problem, and a slide or two about why you’re the best person, business, or brand for the job – voila, done! But that pitch deck would then be turned over to, most likely a junior that would have virtually no real pull in the office so what’s the point?

Today’s pitches are different! Don’t you dare show up with a pitch deck and a plan to pitch to the junior person in the department! Great pitches are now provided in a pitch video, but what does that even mean? What is a pitch video?

What is a Pitch Video?

Short, engaging pitch videos are incredibly popular with brands and businesses these days, particularly because we know that consumers are more likely to recall what they see in a video over any other marketing media. A pitch video can be used for a variety of potential cases, from pitching yourself to a new employer or pitching your brand to a potential partner, but what is a pitch video and why is it so important for me to consider producing a pitch video for my business?

A pitch video is essentially your pitch deck, with amazing magnitude to outshine the competition! It’s a short, powerful, sales or business presentation that is delivered via video with graphics, catchy visuals, and powerful narration! A pitch video walks the audience through the details of your pitch in an engaging, and compelling manner.

What is a Pitch Video Used For?

Whether you’re pitching a new product or service, a new business or brand, or an upcoming film, the use of video to pitch your ideas allows you to deliver significantly more information in significantly less time. Businesses can use pitch videos for a variety of purposes throughout their campaigns.

Pitch videos are ideal for fundraising campaigns and startup businesses. They’re also useful if you’re pitching a new idea to your boss or if you want to pitch a particular product or service idea to investors. Pitch videos can be used to pitch a new business idea, or for virtually any purpose in which you must grab the attention and support of the audience in hopes of getting them to buy-in to your idea.

Why is a Pitch Video Important?

Statistically, the average about of time spent reviewing a pitch deck over a period of time, according to powerful document sharing service DocSend, is just under three minutes. That means, all those detailed slides and perfect pitches that you put to paper and sent over, are being reviewed in a fraction of the time that it took you probably to create the very first slide! In fact, we think it probably breaks down something like:

  • 3-5 seconds reviewing the cover
  • 3-5 seconds reviewing the back cover
  • Just over two minutes reviewing all the slides in the deck.

There’s no possible way, no matter how engaged the reviewer is, that they’re gaining the critical details from your pitch if they’re only spending seconds reviewing the illustrations and bullet points that you’ve added. Your pitch, no matter how powerful it may have been, has lost steam if the audience only spends a few seconds on each slide.

That’s why a pitch video is so important! If a picture is worth a thousand words, than a video pitch is worth billions! Why? The average high definition video has 30 frames per second, which equates to essentially up to 30 still images per second that your audience will see. Therefore, if a picture is worth a thousand words, than a single second of video must be worth about 30 thousand words! Just think how much more you can deliver with video versus still images and written text alone!

Not only does a pitch video raise 4X more than campaigns that do not include video, people are more likely to recall and remember what they see in video. In fact, we recall about 95% of what we see on video with 80% of consumers remembering the video a month later, whereas we only recall about 10% of what we read!
