What is the Video Content Production Process?
The video production process is a simple, three phase process that generally consists of the following stages or steps:
- Pre-production. This the planning stage.
- Production. This is the filming stage.
- Post-production. This is the editing stage.
Together, each of these steps or phases are combined to produce a finished video project.
Pre-Production Process
The pre-production process is largely made up of planning. This is where the style, content, timeline, and budget are all established for a video project.
During the pre-production process preparations are made for the video to be created. The strategy and goals are defined, a plan for targeting a specific audience is announced, and the script is produced.
Steps in the video content production process that occur during the pre-production phase include:
-Strategy and goal setting.
-Story selection.
-Planning and timeline development for the project.
-Script writing.
-Talent acquisition and casting.
-Procuring of production equipment.
-Location scouting.
-Scheduling.
Production
The next step in the video content production process is the actual filming of the video. This is where the scheduling and planning all come together. Footage is captured on camera and each scene is played out, one-by-one. The entire script and story come to life on camera at this time.
The vision, ideas and overall goals of the production are played out on camera. The producer will do his or her best to make sure that your creative vision is carried out in the project.
During production the following takes place:
-Stage setup.
-Sound and lighting setup.
-Video equipment setup.
-Interviews and other on-camera testimonials captured.
-Voice overs are recorded.
-B-roll is recorded.
Post-Production
The final stage of production takes place in post-production when all of the film and footage that is captured will be pieced together to produce the finished video project.
Post-production editing involves a lot of back and forth communication with the editing crew to ensure that everything comes together just right for the finished video.
During this phase of the video content production process, the following occurs:
-Footage is organized and logged.
-The final cut is produced.
-Music is chosen.
-Video is edited.
-Content is reviewed, approved, or revised.
-Final video is delivered.
Working with a professional video production company takes much of the in-between work out of the entire video content production process so that you can focus on the important tasks of seeing your vision through and finalizing the video for distribution.
