At Beverly Boy Productions, we find ourselves answering this question for clients on a regular basis. This is what we tell them:

Live streaming an event in Boston presents several factors when determining the appropriate budget and pricing for the event. Things like equipment, crew, and of course venue are all important elements that figure into the total costs involved.

Most of the time, streaming an event in Boston can be achieved for somewhere between about $1,000 and $5,000 but the exact price really depends on the individual circumstances of the event.

Event Streaming Crew Costs

Streaming a Boston event will most certainly require a crew that can operate all the equipment and cameras required to deliver a professional production to your audience.

Naturally, when you ask, “How much does it cost to stream an event in Boston?” We start thinking about all of the individual factors that go into figuring out the cost.

This includes crew which may involve any or all of the following:

  • Director – up to $250 per hour
  •
  • Camera Operator – up to $400 per hour
  •
  • Equipment – up to $100s per hour
  •
  • Narrator – up to $400 per hour
  •
  • Switcher – up to $200 per hour
  •
  • Streaming platform – $50 to $1,000 (depends on the platform and usage)
  •
  • B-Roll – usually a percentage of the total cost between 10 and 50%
  •
  • Miscellaneous Fees – very little or could be 1,000s

As you can see, most of the crew members will run between about $100 and $250 per hour. In addition to these crew members, you’ll have to decide whether you need a broadcast engineer to assist with the stream. This too will add to your overall costs.

What if I Just Do It All Myself?

If you thought you could just capture the event on camera and maybe Facebook Live it to your audience, you’re probably going to find yourself disappointed. Facebook Live and similar streaming options like this are really not ideal for streaming an event because there are so many things that can (and will) go wrong.

You could find your stream cutoff, you might have issues with audio or video quality, and you will certainly lack control over who sees your event and when or if commercials interrupt.

You really don’t want to invest all this effort into an event, only to have someone else control how your audience receives it, do you?

Boston Live Stream Event Costs

In addition to the costs associated with hiring a Boston live stream production crew there are also expenses associated with equipment and various needs relative to the event that you’re hosting.

Things like a production switcher and support for the 4K technology that you’re delivering to your audience are important considerations. You’ll also have to decide whether other technologies such as CDN are required for your event.

When you ask, “How much does it cost to stream an event in Boston?” It’s only instinct for us to return your question with a few questions of our own.

We’ll need to know how long the event will be, whether the stream will be a live broadcast in real-time or whether you intend to capture the event and stream it later on. We’ll also need to know how big the event will be so that we can begin to plan equipment and other technology needs.

That’s also why we tell clients that the cost to stream an event in Boston can really range from about $1,000 to several tens of thousands of dollars — it all really just depends on your event.
