The San Diego Underground Film Festival is known for risk taking on young talent and for showcasing legendary filmmakers. The festival prides itself on culture and the underground. Representing one of the nation’s most challenging, nurturing, and exciting film festivals there is.

The entire film festival represents a mix of lo-fi films, punk rock, skate/surf style films, cooking shows, and such a strong mix of authorship like nothing anywhere else in the country.

In addition, San Diego Underground Film Festival combines art school, punk rock, and the sun of San Diego. To provide an incredibly unique opportunity for filmmakers, and enthusiasts to broaden their horizons.

Entrants showcase radically different techniques in selections that range from narrative films and documentaries to shorts and various esoteric exhibits in narrative and experimental form.

San Diego Underground Film Festival Entries

The San Diego Underground Film Festival provides a number of awards to filmmakers and those who enter film submissions through Film Freeway. Submitting to the festival is quick and easy. 

Filmmakers are required to follow submission procedures and guidelines as they are set forth by Film Freeway. This means that only online submissions are allowed such as those from Video, YouTube, etc.

Moreover, no hard copy submission will be accepted. Entries for the 2021 San Diego Underground Film Festival are on hold pending further notice.

However filmmakers and enthusiasts interested in this festival should keep in touch with Film Freeway. And check back often for insight into the festival which was put on hold due to COVID-19.

Technical Requirements for SDUFF 

Finally, entries into the San Diego Underground Film Festival (SDUFF) must adhere to certain technical requirements. Including filming in formats such as Apple ProRFes HQ422, Regular 8, Super 8, or 16mm print.

They must also avoid 5.1 sound mix as well as the use of DCP. The SDUFF reserves the right to determine if a selection is acceptable. And will not accept films in dialogues in any language other than English at this time.
