The Boston Asian Film Festival is New England’s largest Asian American film festival which takes place annually attracting Asian American filmmakers from all around to congregate and enjoy nearly an entire week of filmmaking fun. Known fully as the Boston Asian American Film Festival or BAAFF, this film showcase features productions from participants in diverse Asian Pacific American communities that showcase the history, social conditions, and cultural experiences of this community. Submissions

The Boston Asian American Film Festival is a production of the Asian American Resource Workshop that accepts submissions leading up to the festival each year. Deadlines for the upcoming festival of 2021 have not been announced yet, but typically begin in Early May and extend with a final submission date in July.

 

Films submission guidelines are generally as follows:

 

– Feature Film Submissions – 41 minutes or longer

Short Film Submissions – 40 minutes or less

 

Submissions must be completed within the previous 5 years and require a submission entrance fee. Short submissions require a fee of $15-$25 depending on when it is submitted. Features require a submission fee of $20-$40 depending on submission timing.

 

Awards

So, what do Asian American filmmakers receive for their award winning submissions to the Boston Asian Film Festival? It depends on the submission award. Various awards are provided for submissions in different categories. Typically, award categories are as follows:

 

– Best Documentary Feature

– Best Documentary Short

– Best Narrative Feature

– Best Narrative Short
