1.  Producing Videos that are Too Long

Corporate video production should focus heavily on a few common denominators that make great corporate marketing videos: length, target audience, and delivery of information. Producing corporate videos that are too long will result in loss of consumer attention span.

The ideal length for most corporate videos is just 60 seconds. Keep in mind that you either keep the viewer interested and engaged or you lose them — all in the first 10 seconds or less!

With only a minute to deliver your message, and a consumer audience that is constantly faced with other competitors that are vying for their attention, you have to work hard to deliver a powerful, riveting experience for viewers or else you won’t make a good impression.

2.  Poorly-Formatted Script

Deliver too much information in your corporate video and the audience won’t remember what it was you said or why it was important. Deliver not enough information and your audience will feel like you wasted their time.

Deliver information in a haphazard manner, that is not properly organized or logically presented and you’ll lose the audience’s attention, FAST. Unfortunately, a poorly-formatted script is a recipe for disaster when you produce corporate video content.

Make sure that you use a less is more approach when producing your corporate videos. Focus on formatting your script so that the dialogue has a logical flow and the important elements of the video are written out so that there is a solid plan in place as to how you will deliver the key elements of the video to the end viewer.

3.  You Don’t Know Your Audience

Corporate video production requires a deep connection with the audience that you are delivering content to. A video that is produced for the wrong audience or without the audience in mind will literally TANK.

Corporate video producers must fully understand the audience and the unique needs and challenges faced by that audience in order to deliver content that is meaningful and appropriate.

Keep in mind the differences in audience needs and the ways that the audience you are creating content for is most likely to accept content.

Are they watching videos on TikTok? If so, the content needs to be short, catchy and quick to get to the point. Are they watching YouTube videos? If so you may have a little more time to deliver your key message.

4.  Talent Doesn’t Live up to Expectations

Corporate video production is often faced with a key downfall–big corporations and small corporations alike face this issue–they don’t want to pay for experienced talent to be a part of their video so they go for a corporate video that includes their own workers as the “talent” in the film–and they fail! Using inexperienced actors to represent your corporation in a corporate video is a big “no-no!”

Choose talent that will live up to the expectations of your brand and the vision that consumers have for your business. A beautiful girl isn’t the answer to every corporate video!

Consider relatable actors or actresses that can represent your business while providing exceptional on-screen talent that Sally from HR simply can’t. Experienced talent can literally make or break your corporate video’s success.

5.  Poor Editing Transitions

Corporate video producers that go through the steps to ensure great corporate footage for the finished video and then hand it over to an editor that uses sharp cuts and poor transitions to pull it all together almost always fall short of the quality that is needed to WOW consumers.

Corporate videos should focus just as much attention on the editing and final use of transitions to make the video a masterpiece as was done in the production process.

Post-production editing is equally as important as pre-production script writing and production. Make sure that the editor working on your corporate video is skilled with transitions and cuts that will make the finished video seamlessly deliver the intended message.

6.  Poorly Chosen Music

Corporate videos with background music that doesn’t fit the message or the content in the video will leave viewers feeling lost or confused. When selecting music for a corporate video the focus should be on more than just the sounds.

Does the music tempo and beat align with the content? Is the music too slow? Boring? Repetitive?

Try to resist choosing music that is overly played out. Also, do what you can to avoid paying insane amounts for music that is purely added in the background to fill the void.

There are many affordable options when choosing music for your corporate video, you really don’t have to go with something that is too expensive. Just make sure it fits!

7.  Animated Graphics that Fail to Impress

Animated graphics are a great addition to corporate videos in many cases, but poorly constructed animations or animated graphics that appear flashy and distracting can do more harm than good.

Corporate video production companies should focus on delivering animated graphics that are balanced, not overly distracting and do not take up too much of the viewable area of the screen.

Use crisp and clean animations in your corporate videos. Keep animated features moderately balance with standard footage. Remember, animations that calm the eyes are better than those that are flashy and disturbing. A less is more approach works here too!
